École Nationale d’Administration

FR : Le projet consiste au réaménagement intérieur d’une partie du Rez-de-Chaussée du bâtiment de la « Commanderie Saint-Jean » abritant les locaux de l’Ecole Nationale d’Administration à Strasbourg. En parallèle, une extension est implantée à l’ouest du bâtiment historique et reliée à celui-ci grâce à une passerelle au premier niveau. Les quatre façades du bâtiment d’extension de l’ENA emploient un vocabulaire architectural commun, réinterprété selon l’orientation des façades et leurs vis-à-vis. Elles sont principalement en mur à ossature bois, à l’exception des cages d’escalier et du rez-de-chaussée qui sont réalisées en béton, plus résistant aux dégradations et à l’accrochage des structures du mur végétal. Ce procédé permet d’avoir une façade libre, indépendante de la structure. Le bâtiment possède une volumétrie simple, qui vient dynamiser les volumes de l’amphithéâtre et de la passerelle de liaison avec le bâtiment existant. Des panneaux photovoltaïques sont implantés entre les vitrages de la façade Sud, créant ainsi un jeu entre surface opaque, transparente et réfléchissante.

L’ENA fut l’un des premiers bâtiments de France à recevoir la certification NF HQE Bâtiment Tertiaires.

UK : This project entailed remodelling the interior of part of the ground floor of the "Commanderie Saint-Jean" that houses the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (France's prestigious civil service college) in Strasbourg. In parallel, an extension was added to the west of the historic building and connected to it via a first-floor walkway. The four façades of the extension use the same architectural vocabulary, reinterpreted according to their orientation and overlook. They are mainly made up of timber-frame walls, except the stairwells and ground floor level, which are made of concrete, a material that is more resilient to damage and allows the structures of the living wall to be attached to it. This means that the façade can stand proud of the main structure. The simple massing sets off the lecture hall and the walkway connecting the extension to the existing building. Solar panels have been installed between the windows of the south façade, creating an interplay between opaque, transparent and reflective surfaces.

The ENA was one of the first buildings in France to be awarded NF HQE Bâtiment Tertiaires certification.
