Logements, bureaux, commerces et pôle scientifique

Wuxi | Chine

UK : Wuxi's project was conceived in the framework of a collaboration between Alsatian and Chinese architects within the AADI Alsace Architectural Design Institute association. Winner of the competition launched in 2007. The reflection of the project was made on a site covering an area of 28km²; and the urbanization of the site was developed on a surface of 880ha in order to preserve virgin natural spaces. The mixed programme of the project is largely made up of housing, industry, a teaching and research university, hotel activity zones and commercial spaces. The project is in harmony with the large landscape and the future peripheral districts.

Its shape is directly derived from the existing natural elements, water, vegetation, mountains, and is developed around a north-south axis that links the city of Wuxi and Lake Taihu. The park is located in the heart of the university city. Jiangnan University and the Professional Institute of Technology, existing entities at the time of the design of the urban project, have been integrated into a wider area of higher education and industry.

At the foot of the mountain, a marshy area is developing due to the proximity of the river, which regularly overflows. This characteristic was integrated into our thinking by imagining buildings on stilts. Similarly, the Buddhist temple, one of the oldest sites in this region of China, has been preserved and showcased in our project.
